Episode Notes:

1. All games captured from the SNES Classic.

2. I’ve always called A Link to the Past, Zelda III. When it was previewed in magazines back in the day it was always called that.

3. Super Castlevania IV is my favorite in the series.

4. I could beat Super Mario 2 with a single life without using warp zones. I even recorded some of my runs on VHS to prove to people I could do it.

5. Had this been a larger list, my honorable mentions games would have all been next in line.

N O W A Y! Before the countdown began, I was thinking, "it's crazy how Blackthorne will never be in anyone's top 10." I look away for one sec and hear, "I was never really a big fan of Prince of Persia…" I immediately look down and see Blackthorne LMAO Man, that's why I'm subbed. You're knowledgeable and think outside the box.

Damn, i like to love all of the 9 / 10 games on this list, but sadly never played Actraiser. Will give it try, thanks for your opinion.

super castlevania, super metroid, super contra, axelay, fzero, . i find it interesting that you don't like the oringinal mega man on nes. I'm the opposite. I really like the original NES mega man. I found the Mega Man X 16 bit versions to be very cheesy and didn't give me the same feeling of suspense.

Great list – I think we can safely say that all old school gamers have a soft spot for the SNES and the golden era of gaming. Some of these are my fav games of all time, stacking up against modern day games with ease. Love going down memory lane and seeing all of these phenomenal masterpieces discussed 🙂 You missed a few, but that’s the beauty of subjective lists 👍🏻

I enjoy Sega fans' Nintendo top 10s because it seems like Nintendo fans usually list the same 10 games. Sega fans on Nintendo consoles tend to find some more unique games to play. In that same vein, it was a group of Nintendo fans who introduced me to Genesis games like Crusader of Centy because of its strong resemblance to Zelda.

I wasn't much of a fan of the mode 7 tech demo "games," but I loved the RPGs and simulations the SNES had to offer. Phantasy Star and Landstalker got me into RPGs, and when I ran out of them to play on the Genesis, I discovered a shit ton of great JRPGs on the SNES. The SNES' weak CPU and strong graphics and sound chips made it a great system for those genres. I liked its Street Fighter games too — after I bought a third-party six-button SNES controller so I could play it with six face buttons like the Genesis version.

PS: Chrono Trigger >>>>> Final Fantasy III and Earthbound >>>>> both of them. Also, Metroid 1 >>>>> Super Metroid, but Super Metroid is the greatest game on the SNES anyway. And I loved being able to whip in 8 dimensions in Castlevania IV, because there aren't many SNES games that let you move or attack in 8 directions. It almost plays like a Genesis game while looking and sounding like a SNES game.

I'm so happy that I can finally enjoy SNES and Super Famicom games on my Retro-Bit Trio and Trio+, and also the SNES Classic mini. I grew up with an NES, Genesis and Gameboy, but I had to walk 2 houses down to my best friend's house to play SNES.

Turtles in Time should definitely be in Top 10. BattleToads and Double Dragon too. My favorite 2 beat em games on SNES.
